First impressions count. Don't forget that the applicant is interviewing you just as much as you are interviewing them. You might find the following tips useful!
- Prepare questions that address the skills and experience the job specification requires.
- Make sure you have read the applicant's CV and note any specific issues you need to address.
- Have a suitable room booked for your interviews.
- Make sure each applicant is greeted in a friendly and professional manner, from reception onward.
- Make sure you won't be interrupted during the interview.
- Keep to scheduled times.
- Do make an effort to put the applicant at ease.
- Outline what format the interview will take.
- Tell the applicant that you will take notes.
- Keep control of the interview and stick to the planned interview questions.
- Give applicants an overview of the company and the role.
- Schedule some of the interview time for questions from the applicant.
- Ask the applicant if they are interested in the role after the interview.
- Inform the applicant what the next steps will be and when he/she is likely to hear from you.
