Recruitment & Selection Process

OFFER

"Sealing the Deal".

Again, planning and preparation come into play when offering someone a job.

  • Make sure you have gathered all the details of what you are offering before you call the successful applicant.
  • When calling, make sure you are in a discrete location, where you will not be interrupted
  • Depending on the role involved, you should put aside at least 30 minutes to make an offer.
  • Make sure you are calling the applicant at a suitable time and that He/She is free to talk.
  • Be enthusiastic.
  • Be clear and to the point.
  • Answer any questions or concerns honestly and, preferably, immediately.
  • Ask the successful applicant for an answer.
  • Congratulate them.
  • Agree to send out a formal letter of offer and contract of employment - there should be no surprises in these as you will have covered everything in your verbal offer
  • Confirm a start date and agree on contact before then. Many offers are accepted and then rejected before the individual joins. It is really important to keep in touch with your new employee during their notice period. That way you can allay any fears and pre-empt any potential counter offer from their existing employer.
